Chess is a game of strategy played between two opponents on opposite sides of a board containing 64 squares of alternating colors.

The Goal
The ultimate objective is to checkmate your opponent's King.

The Turn
White always moves first, and players alternate turns until the game ends.
Piece Movements
King
One square in any direction.
Queen
Any number of squares in any direction.
Rook
Any number of squares horizontally or vertically.
Bishop
Any number of squares diagonally.
Knight
An 'L' shape (2 squares then 1 perpendicular).
Pawn
One square forward (or two on first move). Captures diagonally.
